PFAS Findings in Cannon Twp & EGLE Action

In March 2026, Cannon Township installed a shallow groundwater monitoring well as part of preliminary planning for a potential future cemetery north of the cell tower on the Township Office property.

Groundwater testing discovered low levels of PFAS in the shallow groundwater. The Township immediately notified EGLE do discuss this and review next steps.

During that conversation, EGLE informed the Township that EGLE recently had received word from a nearby resident that their drinking water well test had found similar low levels of PFAS and that EGLE planned to conduct testing as part of a preliminary investigation.

As shown in the attached EGLE letter and in the Map above, EGLE mailed notices recently to nearby residents to offer water well testing at no charge to these residents.

Any questions about this drinking water well testing should be directed to:

Additionally, Cannon Township recently installed a second monitoring well south of the Township Office building as part of the effort to determine the source, magnitude, and extent of ground water contamination. Results will be shared when available.
